836M is a non-profit arts organization with a gallery space in San Francisco. Our mission is to emphasize the creative process and ignite people’s hearts and minds through live artistic and cultural experiences. We create programming that provokes strong reactions, lively debate, deep curiosity, and discovery, and through doing so, we hope to open minds and raise people’s awareness.
Our programming celebrates bringing people together to share varying perspectives. We host exhibitions, artist residencies, documentary screenings, an ephemeral mural program, a concert series, and innovative partnerships with other arts and cultural organizations in the Bay Area.
Exhibitions
Since its inception, 836M’s gallery space has hosted multidisciplinary exhibitions, performances, and artist residencies. We seek exceptional living artists exploring various artistic mediums. In line with our commitment to the community, we build long-term relationships with all its artists and partners and strive to provide a space to amplify and share art that brings pleasure and joy to the community.
Mural Program
Established in 2014, 836M’s ephemeral mural program showcases the brilliance of local Bay Area-based artists, artist teams, urban artists, street writers, and muralists. Rotating every six months in the adjacent office space, this program commissions temporary murals to support local artists, enhance the character of the space, and create opportunities for visitors to connect with the artist and their work.
Documentary Screenings
836M’s film screening program, in collaboration with local organizations such as Roco Films and other partners, supports our mission as a communal space to convene and discuss thought-provoking ideas. The films shown have explored themes related to art, environment, health, technology, and social justice.
Public Art
We celebrate bringing together inspiring artists and creatives with the community through free events held in public spaces in the San Francisco Bay Area.
